Honors Biology Gateway Enrichment Program Information at a Glance
The science enrichment program is a combination of a virtual curriculum and a paper/pencil assessment which, if successfully completed, will allow your student to advance to Honors Biology in the fall. Here are some of the details of the program:
A wikispace has been created to serve as an information hub for both students and parents. http://aurorahonorsbio.wikispaces.com/ Email is another easy way to get your questions answered. Angi Frankmann will serve as a point of contact. Her email is: afrankmann@aurora-schools.org
Start Date-Thursday, April 9th – End Date- Week of June 2nd.
On their own time, students will utilize a web based virtual curriculum (Compass Learning) aligned to our CPE Science course and to the state standards in order to learn the important “stepping stone” CPE Science curriculum.
All students will take a pre-test to determine their level of mastery for the 22 units of this program. Students who score 85% or higher for any indicator will be exempt from that learning module. The Pre-tests for the first half of the content must be completed by April 17th.
The students next must complete all the remaining learning modules and pass the exit quiz with mastery level of 80% or higher. Any assessment score below 80% will require the student to re-do the lesson and take another assessment.
If three failures occur in a single unit, the student will be locked out of the program and will need to contact Mrs. Frankmann. Students who experience multiple lock-outs will not be unlocked until they attend a mandatory conference with Aurora High School principal, Mike Roberto, who will revisit the goals of this program with the student.
Upon completion of the entire curriculum, students will take the actual CPE Final Exam as a paper/pencil test and must score a 75% or higher in order to qualify for the Honors Biology course. Dates for the final exam are scheduled for June 1st from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Harmon or June 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Aurora High School.
Students who do not complete the entire program, or score below the established level of mastery on the final exam, will be scheduled in CPE Science for their freshman year.
